Research Interests

My research interests include the history of the 20th Century China and the history of the PRC, with focus on cultural history, intellectual history, and urban history. I am equally interested in the aspect of material culture in 20th Century China. My current project focuses on the history of Chinese birth control policy (and one child policy), to see how the discourses around population changed tones and how these intellectual discourses showcased the transregional connection between China and the global world in the twentieth century. I am also interested in exploring the birth control policy from the perspectives of social history, gender history, and the history of knowledge. Additionally, I also develop a strong interest in the history of modern Japan.
