Book Launch for Pitelka’s Reading Medieval Ruins

Bernard L. Herman Distinguished Professor of History and Chair of the Carolina Asia Center Morgan Pitelka is the proud author of Reading Medieval Ruins: Ubran Life and Destruction in Sixteenth-Century Japan.Originally published in 2021, the book is now available in paperback through Cambridge University Press. Dr. Pitelka’s research focuses on late medieval and early modern Japan, with a focus on material culture, environmental history, and urban history.
The Carolina Asia Center is proud to host a celebratory event for the release of this new version of Dr. Pitelka’s book, to be held in FedEx room 4003 and on Zoom on Wednesday, October 11th at 4 p.m. In addition to Dr. Pitelka’s own comments, Dr. Simon Partner of Duke will provide a brief reflection on the work, and the audience is invited to ask questions or participate in the general discussion about this great work!
