We want to extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Shannon Eaves, who graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with her PhD in History in 2015, for earning tenure and promotion to the position of Associate Professor at the College of Charleston! Eaves is a specialist in 19th century U.S. History, African American History, and Slavery and Gender in the Antebellum South.
In addition to this amazing accomplishment, Dr. Eaves has just published a new book with UNC Press entitled Sexual Violence and American Slavery: The Making of Rape Culture in the Antebellum South. In a review, Dr. Hannah Rosen said that Dr. Eaves’ work “will shape future discussions of sexual violence and exploitation under slavery” and that this book in particular promises to be “the gold standard on this subject.”
You can find out more about the book or order it through UNC Press here and more about Dr. Eaves’ work here!
Congratulations again, Dr. Eaves! Come back to visit any time!
