As folks at UNC head home or meet with loved ones for this week of Thanksgiving, they may hear the story of the “First Thanksgiving” in children’s books or on television. In a recent article for Time Magazine, several members of the History Department came together to ask us to reflect on 8 historical moments that are more important to Native Americans in the United States than this mythologized event. UNC History Professor Kathleen Duval, Carolina Postdoctoral Fellow Raquel Escobar, and former UNC postdoctoral fellow Kyle Mays were all interviewed for the story, which you can check out here.
