Sarah K. Miles, currently in her last year as a PhD student at UNC, is a host for the New Books Network channel in French Studies. Her most recent episode is an interview with Nicole Bauer, who graduated with her PhD from UNC in 2018. At UNC, she studied political culture, the development of ideology, and the intersection between the evolving concepts of honor, secrecy, and transparency in eighteenth-century France under Jay Smith. Dr. Bauer is now a faculty member at the University of Tulsa.

In the episode, the two talked about Nicole’s new book, Tracing the Shadow of Secrecy and Government Transparency in Eighteenth-Century France, is based in part on doctoral work she did while at UNC.
