My research focuses on the late eighteenth-century American borderlands with an emphasis on the competition over the Mississippi River Valley between the Spanish, the United States, and the various Native American nations. My current project examines how Spanish officials in colonial Louisiana enticed American settlers in the western borderlands to forfeit their citizenship and become Spanish subjects.
