Research Interests

Gabe Moss is a Ph.D. Candidate in Ancient History at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where his work focuses on the military, political, and environmental history of the Roman world, as well as on cartography and the digital humanities.  He has worked with the Ancient World Mapping Center for 5 years, and currently serves as the organization's Associate Director.  His dissertation, Hostile Terrain: Empire, Resistance, and Military Geography on the Roman Frontier, uses GIS technology to deepen our understanding of the nature of the Roman Empire on its periphery.
