Research Interests

My main research interests are the history of the Late Ottoman Empire and the Near/Middle East, Ottoman diplomatic and military history, the history of international relations and international law, the history of international political economy, gunboat diplomacy, the Concert of Europe, empires and imperialism, and the British and French empires. My dissertation mainly focuses on the role of the Ottoman Empire in the evolution and universalization of international law in the 19th and early 20th centuries and the continuities and ruptures in Ottoman-European relations within the framework of international law.
