My dissertation, “Reconstructed Rebels: Nation-building and Self-Reinvention in the Post-Civil War South,” examines former Confederates who joined the Republican Party. My research interests include 19th and 20th century U.S. history, and the long history of American empire, nation-building, institutions, and citizenship.
I also work in D.C. with the Office of the Secretary of Defense – Historical Office. I am involved in multiple projects related to the history of defense policy post-1947.
