Alumna Katy Smith Novel Readings

UNC PhD Alumna Katy Smith is an accomplished novelist and illustrator She has just published a new book, The Weeds, which follows two female botanists, one in 1854 and one in 2018, who are cataloging the plants in the Roman Colosseum while searching for a larger purpose in the face of science and violence (and science’s violence). The book is structured as a botanical flora, species by species, and features lovely illustrations.

She is undertaking two local publicity events about her new work for those who might be interested.

First, on April 20th at noon: a conversation with the illustrator of the book, Kathy Schermer-Gramm, at the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. Those interested can register here.
