The Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Naming University Facilities and Units has decided to rename the Student Affairs building on campus in honor of Henry Owl. Owl was a Cherokee historian and the first American Indian student to enroll at the university. He joined the history department in 1928 as a graduate student where he wrote his thesis on  “The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Before and After the Removal.”
