Chief Judge Algenon Marbley, of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, this week ordered police in Columbus Ohio to cease their use of tear gas, pepper spray, batons and rubber bullets against nonviolent protesters. Read more about the ruling in the New York Times.

Marbley (Class of 76) took classes in the History department, including Dr. Genna Rae McNeil’s upper level course, “Race, Racism, and American Law.” He went on to receive a law degree from Northwestern University and has served on the district court since 1997, and as Chief Judge since 2019.
