My research focuses on how certain political movements that took place in rural areas of southwest China during the Maoist period (1949–1976) have been re-narrated in the post-Mao era. I am interested in how larger historical forces, attitudes, and ideas have shaped group identities and local historical narratives in China’s culturally and ethnically diverse southwest frontier.
