History department faculty are organized by field, but their intellectual interests reach across field boundaries. Below is a list of thematic or methodological orientations that bring together faculty from disparate areas of specialization. In seminars and colloquia, on graduate student examination committees, and in team-taught courses, History faculty from differing fields build on shared intellectual concerns. This non-exhaustive list of thematic orientations illustrates some of the intellectual linkages between History faculty that are sometimes obscured by field categories. This list is informal and always evolving, but it usefully complements the field listings:
