Curriculum Vitae

Research Interests

Professor Hunt’s scholarship spans over four decades and falls into three overlapping clusters: US involvement in eastern Asia (especially China and Vietnam); US foreign relations; and contemporary global history. The global history of the post-1945 world and of the long twentieth century is currently at the forefront of his concerns. The implications of global history for current U.S. policy is a matter of special preoccupation. Repeatedly deferred but still very much alive is a book-length project in an entirely fresh key: an exploration of the American response to postwar Italy, covering topics from fashion, food, and tourism to art-house cinema to Cold War politics and religion (tentatively titled “A Mirror for Americans: Postwar Italy and the Cosmopolitan Imagination”).
