Visiting the Program
We welcome visits from prospective students to the program during the academic year. To arrange a visit, please contact the Director of Graduate Studies. Administrative offices for the Department of History are located on the fifth floor of Hamilton Hall. Our main phone number is (919) 962‑2115.
You should contact the Director of Graduate Studies at least two weeks before you anticipate visiting the campus so that s/he can try to make time to accommodate you.
If you wish to visit classes or to meet with individual faculty members during your visit, you may contact those faculty members directly, but bear in mind that not all faculty respond to emails from prospective students who have not yet been accepted into the program. Also bear in mind that if you visit our campus during a time when classes are not held, faculty members may not be available to meet with you.
All students admitted to our graduate program are invited to campus for a long weekend in March, during which time they will have ample opportunity to visit classes, tour the campus, and meet with faculty and current graduate students. All admitted students will receive an invitation to this event along with their departmental letter of admission.
The first place you may want to visit when coming to UNC‑Chapel Hill is the University's Visitor's Center (UNC Visitor's Center) near Morehead Planetarium. You will find driving directions here. Parking is limited on campus, so please check the Visitor Parking webpage to find visitor parking locations.
Below we are providing some phone numbers that may be helpful as you make plans to visit our Department. Thank you for spending time with us!
