Department Research Colloquium

The Department Research Colloquium (DRC) was established to encourage advanced graduate students to share their research with peers and faculty.  Held three to four times a semester, the DRC provides a public forum in which graduate students can present their dissertation research and receive valuable experience and feedback.  Each DRC meeting consists of two twenty to thirty research presentations followed by a fifteen minute comment on the papers by a faculty member.  The remainder of the meeting, usually about thirty minutes, is devoted to questions and discussions involving the audience.

Any ABD student who is eager to deliver a research presentation at the DRC should contact the Director of Graduate Studies.  Interested students may also propose an entire panel as well.  Typically successful DRC panels include research presentations that appeal to diverse specializations and combine research topics from different geographical regions and/or historical eras in fresh and creative ways.

In preparation for a DRC presentation, presenters should notify the DGS if they need a/v capabilities.  Presenters should also provide the commentator with a copy of their papers at least two weeks for the date of their presentations.
