Research Interests:

My broad interests revolve around memory, national identity and modes of political opposition in Cuba. Presently, I am exploring these issues through a close examination of changing representations of independence hero Antonio Maceo (1845-1896). This research investigates the connections between national mythologies, identity formation and race in how Cubans constructed and contested memory of Maceo during the Republic (1902-1958).
