Research Interests: My research focuses on Spiritualists in the nineteenth-century South: who they were, what they believed, and the interface of Spiritualist beliefs with established religious traditions. I am exploring the extent to which white southerners incorporated Spiritualism into their cultural and religious belief systems and the ways in which the presence of African Americans may have influenced their reactions.
