Research Interests:
In my current research, I explore changing perceptions and enactments of sexuality after the Cuban Revolution of 1959.
For my Master’s thesis, I examined the Havana Casa de Dementes as a symbol of progress and modernity in mid-nineteenth century Cuba. I argued that in this asylum, colonial physicians both adopted and revised U.S. and European understandings of mental illness as solely a medical condition.
