Research Interests: My master's thesis examines the wedding rituals of elite North and South Carolinians before the Civil War, with an eye to discovering elite women's patterns of gender, class, and race identification.

On a larger scale, I am fascinated by all aspects of antebellum society. America was never so stuffed with contradictions.
