Major Field: European History

Other Fields: Twentieth-Century Germany; International History; Cultural History

Advisor: Konrad Jarausch

Research Interests: I am interested in both the history of postwar Germany and the influence of the United States in the postwar world, including within this scope the issue of "Americanization" and American cultural interaction with the rest of the world. My dissertation looks at American efforts to demilitarize German society and culture during the U.S. occupation of Germany, 1945-1949, taking into account not only American assumptions and plans, but also German involvement in this process and the response of the German people to these measures.
