Research Interests: My primary research interests involve military conflict and cooperation between Native peoples of North America and European colonial powers, especially France and England in the sixteenth through early nineteenth centuries. My M.A. thesis dealt with Potawatomi auxiliaries to the U.S. Army in the Black Hawk War of 1832. My dissertation will build on this work to incorporate the Menominee, Winnebago, and Dakota auxiliaries to the army during this conflict, as well as American attitudes about the enlistment of Indian allies.
