Research Interests

I am interested in research subjects that deal with gender, the body, imperialism/colonialism, and a conscious consideration of the processes of cultural translation. My current research project focuses on the cultural distinctions between Chinese and Western perspectives on female infanticide in late nineteenth century China.

I teach lecture courses on Chinese history in the late imperial period and the twentieth century, as well as specialized seminars on gender in Chinese history and European travel writing.
