Research Interests
Chad Bryant studies the social and cultural history of Central and Eastern Europe from the eighteenth century to the present. His first book, Prague in Black: Nazi Rule and Czech Nationalism (Harvard University Press), is scheduled for publication in March 2007. He is currently writing a history of the arrival of the first train to the Moravian city of Brno in 1839, part of a larger examination of how Europeans and Americans made sense of new experiences, and fears, associated with the speed of train travel.
