What was the Gay Lib movement?
And what can we learn from it now?
Prevalent views of the Gay Liberation movement of the 1960s and early 1970s tend to represent it as consistent with glbtq politicking in the present, as though Gay Lib were a forerunner of current political projects, and as though these projects were somehow a fulfillment of the Gay Lib initiative. But Gay Liberation was fundamentally different in its aspirations, values, and commitments from anything now prominently underway in glbtq politicking in the United States.
