HIST 351
Global History of Warfare
Wayne Lee
This course examines military activity from prehistory to the
present using a world
history perspective. We focus on connections and interactions
between different cultures
and societies, with a particular emphasis on the creation and
transmission of military
"innovations," both technical and organizational. This focus
demands consideration both
of the nature of the society that created it, but also of the details
of its
implementation on the battlefield.
Each week consists of two lectures and a discussion section.
Readings are substantial.
There are four quizzes, a final exam, and two short research papers
(5-7 pages).
